YVM 2024 Tour: National Folk Festival

29 March – 3 April, 2024

This year’s tour was a wonderful six days of singing, dancing, eating and sight-seeing in the nation’s capital. We spend most of our time at the National Folk Festival, presenting three concerts, participating in two collaborations with other artists, hearing lots of fantastic music from around the world, and soaking up the folky festival atmosphere.

We also squeezed some trips in to the National War Memorial, National Gallery, National Museum, a bush walk at Tidbinbilla…

…and a concert with the Woden Valley Youth Choir. YVM shared a concert with Woden Valley Youth Choir more than 20 years ago in our very first tour, so it was special to come full circle and sing with them again.

YVM is privileged to have a long-standing relationship with American composer and hammered dulcimer-player Malcom Dalglish, who comes on tour with us every few years so that we can sing his wonderful music. A lot of Malcolm’s music is written for the unique combination of choir, dulcimer and percussion, making it memorable and exciting for audiences around the world. This was YVM’s eighth tour with Malcolm. We were also joined by Peter Jacob (percussion) from Sydney and Peter Butler (piano) from Bendigo.

Thank you to our wonderful team of staff, volunteer parents and accompanying artists for making it all happen!
